The forum is held on 26th – 27th November to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the soil science department at Kazan University.
Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences Svetlana Selivanovskaya greeted the participants and spoke about the latest successful endeavors of the Department of Soil Science. Chair of the Department Yelena Smirnova then delved into history, starting with 1813 when agriculture and forestry was first included in the curriculum of Imperial Kazan University.
KFU alumnus, Deputy Director of the Institute of Ecology and Mineral Resources Management of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Dmitry Ivanov, shared the Institute's experience in the evaluation of the regional norms of soil quality. In particular, he told about the cooperation with KFU's soil researchers in alleviating the diesel fuel spill on Almetyevsk – Nizhny Novgorod petroleum products pipeline in 2007.
His colleague Valentina Kulagina reported about soil conditions on the islands of the Kuybyshev Water Reservoir.
Researchers from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Perm, Pushchino, Birobidzhan, Syktyvkar, and Novosibirsk have joined the event.
