The talks were held at the Institute of Environmental Sciences.
The main topics of the meeting were graduate employment and waste management. It was preceded by a separate conversation with the Institute employees.
Director of the IES Svetlana Selivanovskaya introduced the guest, “Every fall, we hold meetings with our major employers.”
The Minister spoke briefly about his work and new projects for the cleanup of the Volga River. He assured them that Tatarstan needs qualified ecologists and that the Ministry is always open for them. Coincidentally, the students presented their Clean Up initiative which includes a number of environmentally friendly activities, such as separate waste collection at the Universiade Village.
The Minister concurred that waste treatment and recycling is a very urgent matter. According to him, 87 percent of landfills in Tatarstan are already over their capacity.
After the dialog, he concluded in a comment for our correspondents, “I liked the students' vigor. They asked pertinent questions. When they are concentrated on such important objectives, it's obvious that they have a bright future.”
A mobile environmental lab was then showed to the attending students.
