The study of the history of Islam and the Turkic world has a state value
The VIII international turkological conference "Islam and the Turkic world: problems of education, language, literature, history and religion", dedicated to the international mother language Day was held on 22 of April at Yelabuga Institute of Kazan Federal University.
The main purpose of the event, according to organizers, was to discuss scientific problems and practices of studying language, literature, history and culture of the Turkic peoples, the role and place of Islam in the historical destiny.
Speaking about the distinctive features of this conference, the candidate of historical Sciences, associate Professor of the Department of world and Russian history of the Yelabuga Institute of Kazan Federal University Albert Nigamayev notes that in the course of the forum were raised such acute problems as the history of the Turkic people, education, literature and folklore and which are common for many Turkic peoples of the Russian Federation and the Turkic States, that became independent during the last 25 years.
As experience shows, - says Albert Zufarovich, -even in the countries, - historical leaders of the Turkic world, the study of its ancient and modern history, language, culture remains quite problematic. There are a lot of topical issues that they are willing to discuss with us, so the interest in this conference has both the Russian academic community and the foreign one".
The forum was attended by about 130 experts: scientists, professors, theologians, teachers-methodologists, graduate students and applicants from Russia, USA, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, etc.
A welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the VIII International Turkological conference was made by the Director of the Yelabuga Institute of Kazan Federal University Elena Efimovna Merson. She has noted that this conference isn't incidentally held on the KFU platform: special attention is paid to developing the Humanities in the study of language, literature, history of the Turkic peoples, and in recent years to islamofacism direction. On the basis of the Institute of International relations, history and Oriental studies in 2015 with the support of the Ministry of education of the Russian Federation here was opened a Resource center in the development of Islamic and islamofacism education, implemented a program of targeted training of specialists with profound knowledge of the history and culture of Islam. The study of various problems of history of Islam and the Turkic world is an important milestone of the Humanities and the study of these problems have a national significance.
“It is encouraging that such a large event as the VIII international Turkological conference, held in the framework of the events dedicated to the 130th anniversary since the birth of the great people's poet Gabdulla Tukai, - says Elena Efimovna," we hope that during today's collaboration the theme "Tukay-Turkic world-Islam” will be a strong common thread".
With welcome speech on behalf of the rector of the Kazakh national pedagogical University named after Abai spoke Esenova Kalbike Umirbayevna, doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of General linguistics Kazakh national pedagogical University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). On behalf of the rector she has wished effective work to all the participants of the forum.
During the plenary session presentations were made by leading specialists of Russian and foreign universities: Minnegulov Hatip Yusupovich – doctor of Philology, Professor of Kazan Federal University, honored worker of science of the Russian Federation (Kazan) he devoted the report to the works of Gabdulla Tukai and its value in the Turkic-Islamic world: "April is the month of spring, special for the Tatars, the great poet G. Tukay was born this month. Every day our society rises and reaches new heights and G. Tukay rises together with time. The culture of Tukai, his faith is our treasure. "Giant of poetry of the East" – so the poet is called. What is the reason of such popularity? Many publications of scientists are devoted to this question and there are several assumptions: first- Tukay was born and spent his life amid nature, in the countryside, he grew up in a family of a priest, in the atmosphere of divine worship. Adversity is definitely influenced his work. In addition, we can say that Tukai is not only the "product" of rural but also urban education, he visited many cities of Uralsk, Astrakhan, St. Petersburg. Studied and worked in editorial office of newspapers and was in the centre of public events.Tukay has grown together with the mentality of his contemporaries. Probably, therefore personal experiences of the poet receive a response among the people.
Yulay Shamil-oglu, professor of university of Wisconsin (USA), has submitted to listeners the report in the native Tatar. The subject of his research – "Tombstones as a source of studying of history of a medieval Tatar civilization": inscriptions, a way of processing and scenery, quantity of the found plates – all this gives rich food for the work of the scientist.
About activization of Islam in Adjara the following speaker - the doctor of philosophy, Abesalom Aslanidze (The Batumi university of Shota Rustaveli, Georgia) said in his speech. Features of traditional ceremonialism of the Lithuanian Tatars in the second half of the 20th century were revealed in the performance by Galina Antonovna Mishkinene, professor of Institute of Lithuanian, Vilnius. Her report has been devoted to a wedding ceremony, during the work on this subject she has studied materials of the arabographic manuscripts of the Lithuanian Tatars.
After the plenary session the conference was divided into nine thematic areas among which are: Islam and religious representations of the Turkic peoples, medieval history and archaeology of the Turkic people, Russia and the Turkic-Muslim world, folklore and literature of Turkic peoples and etc.
We will note that young researchers - students of the Yelabuga institute of KFU took an active part in the conference. They have presented the works in English. Among young researchers - Guzel Safargalina,4th year student of the faculty of Tatar and comparative Philology. The theme of the report is "The Ethnic composition of the population of the right Bank of the Lower Kama in the pre-Mongol era". According to Guzel, she was always interested in the history of Tatarstan, and one of the areas of historical science – archaeology. This article is written on the basis of archaeological finds. Scientific supervisor of the student is Albert Zufarovich Nigamayev, the associate professor, the candidate of historical sciences. Guzel acted for the first time in the conference of international level and said that it was a very strong incentive for her to continue research work, having been in the circle of people fascinated by the science, she realized the significance of her work in the study of the history of homeland and its people.
In the framework of the conference the Institute hosted the opening of the exhibition, devoted to the objects of the era of G. Tukai: the exhibition presents manuscripts and women's jewelry of Iran Tatars in the second half of XIX - early XX centuries, part of the exhibition - works of decorative-applied creativity of the students of the faculty of engineering and technology.
On the same day the international scientific conference "Russia and the Turkic-Muslim world: historical and cultural ties" was held at the Yelabuga Institute. It was organized by the Institute of international relations, history and Oriental studies of KFU. The reason of association of events is a close theme: "Islam and the Turkic world".

Professor of the University of Wisconsin-Madisson (USA) Yulai Shamiloglu conducts lectures for students of the Elabuga Institute of KFU
The subject of the lectures that he conducts in English and Tatar languages for students of Elabuga Institute of KFU was touched on the history of the Golden Horde, the language and literature of the peoples who inhabited it and the history of Islam. As it turned out, the professor has his own theories in many directions. For example, the Chengizide Empire is considered by him as a commercial empire, he highlights the special role of nomads in the development of the Golden Horde. He speaks of the tribal structure of the Golden Horde, based on the structure of Kazan, Crimea, Kasimov, Astrakhan khanates - according to this structure, Khan was not an autocrat, the key function of the election and overthrow of Khan performed a meeting of heads of four major tribes. The scientist made the reconstruction of the structure of khanate of the 13-14 centuries, relying on written sources.
The issue of the role of trade khanate with many countries (including Italy) in the economic development of the Golden Horde (they conducted trade in grain, soy, slaves, fish) was raised at the lectures. It was with the development of trade relations there appeared the first coins, and began the development of cities.
In his activity the scientist-turkologist devotes much time to travels: conducts lectures in the educational institutions of Kazakhstan, Turkey, studies the languages and literature of Turkic peoples. Yulai Shamiloglu enthusiastically is engaged in the study of culture, language and the history of the Turkic peoples. He sends his sincere interest to the young professionals - students, he is for the first time in our town.
Except lectures, in the schedule of the scientist is the presentation of a report at the plenary session of the VIII International Turkological Conference "Islam and the Turkic world: the problem of education, language, literature, history and religion", which will take place in April 22, in Elabuga . His statement is based on the interview of the Tatar historian Jamil Mukhametshin, given by him to the news agency of "Azatlyk radiosy". This interview was divided into some points by Yulai Shamiloglu, contrasting his own view to the opinion of the opponent. In particular, on the topic of the history of the plague in the countries of Eurasia and Oriental countries and on the impact of the epidemic on the economy of the countries. The American scientist connects the collapse of the Golden Horde with this factor. According to the professor, he was very interested in the upcoming forum, as a source of all sorts of information, regarding the scope of his scientific activities - the history of Islam, the relation of religion and culture.
The American with Tatar roots, he respects the traditions of his people. Despite the fact that his children were born in the international family (his wife is Turk), they are well aware and know the Tatar language, though, by force of habit, they prefer to speak in English. Sometimes, Yulai Shamiloglu, pets his ménages by some dishes of Tatar cuisine by own cooking.
