Rustam Minnikhanov toured the renovated Engineering Center and the dormitory.
The President had the opportunity to see 3D scanning and prototyping equipment in action. He and Rector Ilshat Gafurov then spent some time near the devices.
The next stop was at the dormitory. The long-awaited refurbishment finally wrapped up, allowing over 300 students to move in to their rooms. The dorm dwellers invited Dr. Gafurov and President Minnikhanov to taste pancakes and made everyone smile with improv gags.
There were two other big events during the Rector's visit to the Kama region – presentations of the Naberezhnye Chelny Institute and Elabuga Institute roadmaps.
Director of Naberezhnye Chelny Institute Makhmut Ganiev voiced some ambitious plans, especially in the Institute’s main specialization – engineering. This includes prospective cooperation with local industrial giants KAMAZ, Ford Sollers, Haier, and others. The presentation attracted much attention, quite a lot of questions were asked and recommendations given.
Director of Elabuga Institute Elena Merzon then stepped to the speaker’s stand to talk about her Institute’s strategy. She mentioned that the Institute will give even more attention to pedagogical majors in engineering. The Elabuga Institute specializes in teachers’ education, and together with the Institute of Psychology and Education they will be the center of the new strategic academic unit (SAU). This SAU will become one of the four new priorities of Kazan University.
