Bilingual children possess special thinking and perception of the world
An international workshop held in Elabuga Institute of KFU was dedicated to technologies and tools of psychological and pedagogical support of multilingual children
On April 21-22 in the framework of Elabuga institute internal grant “Studying the road map of Russian-Tatar bilingual including definition of cross-cultural communication aiming at organizations with ethno component perfection” there was held Ekatherina L. Kudryavtseva’s workshop. E.L. Kudryavtseva is Candidate of Science in Philology, executive secretary of the International methodological council on multilingualism and intercultural communication, researcher at the Institute of Foreign Languages and Media Technology University of Greifswald (Greifswald, Germany).
Participants to the workshop were educators teaching mother tongue in pre-school educational institutions, teachers of schools with ethnic component from Elabuga, Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, Almetyevsk, Mendeleevsk, as well as students of the Faculty of Russian Philology and Journalism of Elabuga institute of KFU.
The venue for the first day of the event was Kindergarten No3 "Teremok" where training tis carried on in two languages - Tatar and Russian.
The workshop practical part began with the introduction into the specifics of working with bilingual children. The term "bilingualism" means the ability of certain groups to speak in two languages. People who speak two languages are called bilingual, more than two is called polilingual, more than six - polyglots. Since language is a function of social groups, to be bilingual means to belong simultaneously to two different social groups, that is, two different peoples and cultures. That is why, according to E.L. Kudryavtseva, it is important for teachers working in a multicultural environment to know that "work with bilingual children is, first of all, awareness of teachers of the indissoluble unity of each particular language with the culture of the people." Ekatherina L. Kudryavtseva acquainted the participants with the types of behavioral targeting of children speaking only Russian and the ones of bilingual children, she told about the differences between bilinguals and their peers. As it turned out, bilinguals have a different way of thinking and perception of the world, have a harmonious picture of the world, greater social activity and creativity, the ability to endure the emotional burden. Due to these features, textbooks, manuals and other teaching material for them should have a special design. They must include mandatory modular tasks, concentrated material feed in the form of charts and tables that can involve parents into fulfilling the assignments.
E.L. Kudryavtseva demonstrated games especially designed for bilingual children. They appeared to be of interest for adults who enjoyed playing them and then offered some new ones.
As part of the experience in the implementation of bilingual education in the kindergarten "Teremok" there was a performance of the fairy tale "Sertotmasurdek" by Abdullah Alish where children with Russian as their native, showed a high level of knowledge of Tatar. Ekatherina Kudryavtseva said that this preschool institution created optimal conditions for teaching bilingual children.
On the 2nd day of the workshop in Elabuga institute of KFU there was a presentation of the testing project “Roadmap of bilinguals” worked out by the local institute teachers in collaboration with foreign specialists. The essence of the project is a joint work of teachers, educators and parents with a view to the harmonious development of bi- and multilingual children in a multicultural environment. "Roadmap of bilinguals" is one of the three components of the methodology for the identification of problems of training bilingual children and monitoring the dynamics of their development. The other two components are games and testing. This day workshop also presented a practical class on testing bilingual children on the example of pre-schools in Germany and Russia. Now there is a possibility of introducing such a system of training in Tatarstan. The tests require the auditory and visual perception; they are adapted to national circumstances and traditions of the children’s learning environment.
The most important event was the signing of agreements on the opening of the organizations participating of the approbation and experimenting sites of the International Laboratory with distributed participation "Innovative technologies in the field of multicultural education" of Elabuga institute of KFU. This will give an opportunity to reveal the specifics of linguistic consciousness, the degree of linguistic and ethno-cultural balance of Russian-Tatar bilinguals, with possible subsequent adjustments of children’s various competencies. This is a new vector of education development in Tatarstan.
Teachers of Elabuga institute professor D.A. Salimova, associate professor Y.Y. Danilova, associate professor L.B. Bubekova, a doctoral student from the Czech Republic A.A. Timofeeva who in collaboration with E.L. Kudryavtseva took an active part in designing such tests for bilingual children have recently won a Russian grant in Humanities for investigating the language and culture of the Russian Germans. Thus, it can be argued that the study of language awareness, bilingual identity problems in a multi-ethnic environment is becoming one of the main vectors of research carried out by professors of Elabuga Institute in close cooperation with their European counterparts.
Professor Anatoly I. Razzhivin, Deputy Director for Research expressed his warm gratitude to Ekaterina L. Kudryavtseva for the work and wished further fruitful cooperation with educational institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan.

About 700 students become participants the final scientific and educational conference
On April 13 - 16 Elabuga Institute of KFU held a Summary students’ scientific and educational conference devoted to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The event was opened on April 13 with a plenary session. The Assembly Hall of the Institute was full of students who wished to listen to the speeches of their fellow students, who presented the results of their research, carried out by them during the year. Many performances have caused a genuine revival of the audience, for example, the story of life in the memories of the rear worker, Linura Gabdelhakovna Galliamova, presented in research work by the 2nd year student Zuhra Bikmukhametova. Albina Zagretdinova’s speech sounded very emotionally, she spoke about the memories of the "children of war". Student Aliya Ganeeva worked on the creation of popular science film "A difficult childhood, scorched by war" and shared with the audience her experiences and the result of work. The report made by Ruslan Maturin announced the data on the heroism of the residents of Tatarstan. So, despite the fact that the territory of Tatarstan was not occupied, by the number of Heroes of the Soviet Union (186), Tatarstan residents are in fourth place after Russian, Ukrainians and Belarusians.
The participants worked in sections for three days.
In just a week 68 breakout sessions of the student scientific and educational conference were held, which were attended by about seven hundred students. Note that 177 of them are students of the 1st and 2nd years, i.e. novice researchers, which should be paid particular attention to. According to organizers, it is the tradition of our student conference to invite students of Elabuga secondary schools and students of other universities of the Republic. In particular, on Saturday, April 18 senior students from a number of Elabuga schools participated in the breakout sessions of physics and mathematics, and the day before the students of Naberezhnye Chelny Institute of Socio-Educational Technologies and Resources became parties to the literary and methodological sections at the Faculty of Russian Philology and Journalism.
Judging by the feedback from the participants of sections, they had obtained a great experience in the implementation of research work, and in addition, got satisfaction from their work. For example, the heated discussions were aroused by the students at the section on sociology, the scientific supervisor of which was Associate Professor of Philosophy and Sociology, A.R. Garifzyanova. "Tatar punk rock: how and what it is eaten with " was the topic of Z.M. Bikmuhametova’s report, a 3rd year student. N.S. Galaktionova told of the existence and characteristics of hip-hop culture. “Risks and body: anorexia - between the virtual and the real”, this topic of the 3rd year student F.D. Merinova’s report shocked the audience.
The Headmaster of School No11" Victoria Zaydullina, invited to the meeting of the section on sociology, left such a comment: "As always, in the style of Albina Raisovna – creative and interesting research! This is one of the few conferences about the results of the presented research that I wants to tell my friends, colleagues, and at home. As a teacher, I want to note speakers. The Russian school has a great future, if these young researchers with burning eyes swell our ranks. Thank you, KFU, for inviting me! ".
The majority of the works were involved in the "Best Student Research Work" and "Best Student paper". Z.M. Bikmuhametova’s work took the 1st place. It shoul be noted that many of the works are the result of the activities of the Research and Education Center for the Study of Youth Cultures, organized at the Department last year.
"I am very glad that our institute has opened a research center. You may ask - why? Because guys, my colleagues explore really interesting topics, explore what is interesting to many scientists, and now with the help of the Centre a large number of people know it, and we are on a par. We talk about it and share with each other, and the atmosphere is very peculiar, because everyone is willing to listen to the other, give advice, listen as it was at our Summary conference. I have only positive emotions and hope we will continue to develop under the guidance of Albina Raisovna! "- says a student of history and law Albina Zagretdinova.
On April 17, the students and teachers got together again to honor the intellectual leaders of the year, those students who have achieved considerable success in scientific activity this academic year - from April 2014 to April 2015.
According to the organizers of the conference, the scientific potential of our students is growing steadily, and the evidence of this are the winners of contests and competitions of not only internal, higher school level, but also nationwide, as well as young professionals’ high publication activity.
Professor Anatoly Razzhivin, Deputy Director of Institute for Research greeted the audience in the hall: "At the moment, a group of our students are in the city of Tver, where the fourth contest "Teacher of the new generation” is held, the contest, which was born here, in our walls and in our departments. We held the first All-Russian competition, knowing that you need to move away from the old, to change educational programs, to train teachers of the modern generation. After Elabuga institute such a contest was held in Udmurtia, and then at the Bashkir State University, and now it is held in Tver State University.
The objective of all of the teaching staff of our institute is to involve students in experimental investigations, starting with the first year, because a specialist who has received a higher education, should be a person of high intellectual work, he should be able to create, create a new product.
Dear students! Today a rewarding of intellectual leaders of 2015 will take place here. I thank you for your great work; I wish you further successes in scientific activities."
At first the awards were given to the winners of All-Russian Olympiads and competitions, as well as the winners of the best scientific work of KFU, they are: Paul Kornilov, Vladislav Svinyakov, Olga Mikhailova, Maria Prokhorova, Dinara Nureyeva, Alena Fadeeva, Aigul Zakirova, and Liliya Khabibullina.
At the festival the winners of internal competitions were awarded. It is necessary to remind that in December, there was a competition "student-researcher", the best in which are the students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages: Alina Fazlyeva, Aigul Valeeva Elena Litvinenko.
Students of Elabuga Institute continue to actively publish in the collections of foreign and international scientific conferences, as well as Russian scientific journals. In the past, 2014 there were published 586 articles. Some students were awarded letters of thanks for high publication activity and contribution to the development of intellectual potential of our university. That's what students themselves say about their first steps in research: "I want to thank my supervisor, Professor Nadezhda Nikolayevna Savina, Associate Professor, Department of Pedagogy. A successful development of students and researchers depends on the scientific adviser, who enriches our experience in research activities and this is necessary for building our future career"(Elena Litvinenko, Faculty of Foreign Languages). "We first took part in the scientific conference and took the 2nd place. The work was hard, because I have worked for not a month, or two, but throughout the year. And I achieved good results. Thank you!" (Anastasia Saushkina and Linara Yagudina, Faculty of Russian Philology and Journalism)
