The Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies was established in 2011 on the basis of the KFU Faculty of Geology and is its rightful successor. The structure of the Institute includes seven specialized departments, Research and Training Center for Natural Bitumen Development, Research and Training Center for Aerospace Technologies, Research and Training Center for Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Investigations, over 20 specialized research and training labs equipped with up-to-date facilities, Research and Training Complex “Petrophysics”, Most extensive Geology Museum, Center of Training Bases and Expeditionary Works, Magnet Observatory (one of the oldest in the country)
Currently, the Institute teaches over 800 under- and post-graduate students in 6 bachelor and 5 master programs in Geology. Students are taught full time, and in both full- and part-time modules for Geophysics. In 2012 the Institute plans to launch teaching in Oil and Gas Business. Institute laboratories boast up-to-date teaching facilities and special equipment. Highly qualified scholars supervise the research process, of them 21 full and 43 associate professors. Together with studying professional and special subjects, students have a fundamental training in Mathematics, Physics, Informatics and Economics.
