An employee and students of the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems took part in the the VI International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Robotics

Employee and students of the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems (LIRS) The Institute of Information Technology and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) took part in the VI International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Robotics (ICR 2021), satellite conference of the XXIII International Conference on Speech and Computer, (SPECOM 2021), which are held from 27 till 30 September 2021 in St. Petersburg.

The ICR 2021 conference, organized by the St. Petersburg Institute of Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM,Germany), has been attracting researchers in the field of human-robot interaction, social and collaborative robotics for the sixth year in a row.

For the fifth year in a row, employees and students of the LRS take part in the ICR conference. This year, the conference is held in a remote (virtual) format, using the Zoom web service and a live broadcast on YouTube, due to the epidemiological situation, the same way as it was last year.

Assistant Professor of the LRS Roman Lavrenov acted as the chairman of the "Robotic Systems" section of the ICR conference.

Valery Myrzin, a fourth-year bachelor's student of the "Software Engineering" profile of the ITIS Institute, presented a scientific report on the topic:

«Visual Data Processing Framework for a Skin-Based Human Detection». Authors: Valery Myrzin, Research Associate Tatyana Tsoy, Yang Bai, (Ritsumeikan University, Japan) Mikhail Svinin (Ritsumeikan University, Japan) and Professor Evgeni Magid.

Ruslan Safin, a second-year student of the master's program «Intelligent Robotics» of the ITIS KFU presented a scientific report on the topic:

«Prioritizing Tasks within a Robotic Transportation System for a Smart Hospital Environment». Authors: Ruslan Safin, Assistant Professor Roman Lavrenov, Research Associate Tatyana Tsoy, Professor Evgeni Magid, Mikhail Svinin (Ritsumeikan University, Japan), Sumantra Dutta Roy (Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi India) and Subir Kumar Saha (Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Delhi India).

The participants shared their impressions of taking part in the XXIII International Conference «Speech and Computer» and the VI International Conference «Interactive Collaborative Robotics»:

Roman Lavrenov: « I chaired the third session of the ICR conference. In this section 8 works were presented, the authors presented their works in English. The speeches were very interesting, but it is a pity that many of them were recorded, in my opinion, the conference lacked live communication. However, it is clear that the pandemic pandemic caused this. Let's hope that everything will work out and further conferences will be held in an offline format.»

Valery Myrzin: «It was quite interesting experience for me, the conference is dedicated to current research in the field of robotics. I was especially curious to know which machine learning algorithms are used in this area. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and friendly and this is undoubtedly a huge plus. »

Ruslan Safin: « The conference left only good memories, each presentation was interesting to me. Despite the remote format of the conference this year, I would like to note the high level of organization. The participants presented their scientific reports at high level, touching upon various aspects of robotics. »

Conference materials will be indexed in the Scopus database. The conference proceedings will be published in the journal Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence, which is a sub-series of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Q3 journal)
