The mission of the Higher school is to carry out educational, social, cultural and creative activities for training a new generation of linguists. Those graduates would be able to communicate in various areas of professional activity in a cross-cultural space, to use information technologies efficiently, to implement the methods of teaching languages and cultures, as well as methods of improving professional competencies.
The Higher school trains philologists and teachers in English, German, French, Spanish languages and literature, translation studies. Russian language and literature, applied linguistics. The Higher school implements educational programs for bachelor's, master's and postgraduate studies. The high level of training in philology, scientific research, psychology and pedagogics provided at Higher School provides wide opportunities for its graduates to fulfil their potential in education, humanities and social studies as well as in cultural, educational and creative career fields. International internships available for the students also provide them with the opportunity to improve their language skills in a native speaking environment and enable them to get an insight into the culture of the languages they study.
Scholars of the Higher school conduct research in computer and corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, and participate in international research grant projects. A scientific project in multilingualism has been carried out to develop and implement a model for the development of preschool bilingual children speech using digital technologies. Scholars are working to create an interactive map of the linguistic landscape of Kazan in three languages, the SMARTI project (Erasmus + grant) is aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of teaching in English. The research team of teaching staff is working on the problem of text complexity, scholars of Higher school created an educational corpus of the Russian language and an automatic analyzer of texts in Russian. Clinical linguistics is actively developing, scholars study the linguistic aspects of speech disorders in adults and children.
