Welcome to the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies

The Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University was established on November, 1, 2013. Its history dates back to 1804 when the Imperial Kazan University was founded.

Today IIRHOS of KFU is one of the elite, innovative and successful modern educational and scientific centers of the Kazan (Volga region) Federal University. It trains specialists for various sectors of the economy.

High quality of professional education, fundamental scientific training, proactive research projects, broad international recognition, profound and consistent study of foreign languages –all of this rightfully constitute most valuable academic assets of IIRHOS. One of the key goals of the Institute is to train a creative personality, a true professional, successful in his or her career.

Our graduates work in the government, various regulatory and administrative authorities, and municipal bodies. They are taken on the key positions in the international departments of large companies, international organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in the most demanded sectors of national economy and science. All this contribute to high reputation of our Institute.

Over 3,000 students, among them more than 300 foreigners from 24 countries, are trained here. High-level scholars, including over 70 doctors and candidates of sciences, are involved in the scientific and educational activities of the Institute.

The Institute trains Bachelors in International Relations, Foreign Regions Studies, Oriental and African Studies, Linguistics, History, Anthropology and Ethnology, Cultural Studies, Museology and Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Tourism, Teacher Training Education with two profiles of training. There are also Master’s degree programs in International Relations, History, Anthropology and Ethnology, Art history, Linguistics, Tourism and Foreign Regions Studies.

In addition, the students are well trained in foreign languages. We teach English, German, French, Spanish, Turkish, Korean, Persian, Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Swahili, , and Hindi.

Almost all the training programs are taught in two or more languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Swahili, Afrikaans, as well as old Slavonic, old Tatar, old Ottoman Turkish, Latin, ancient Greek etc. Wide cooperation with international and Russian scientific and educational centers, the center for competence development "UNIVERSUM+" and numerous cultural programs including the study of European and Oriental languages contribute to the high level of linguistic competence of the students and allow for their professional growth and employment opportunities.

The institute has 3 divisions, Research and Education Department, Archaeological and Ethnographic museums, training field facilities in Bilyarsk village of Alekseevsky region of the Republic of Tatarstan, Research and Education centers and Research Laboratories, cultural and regional studies centers.

The Children's University of the Volga federal district opened on October, 30, 2011 upon the initiative of the Institute.
