Structure of the Institute of International Relations

The Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies is one of the largest institutes of Kazan Federal University. Its long tradition goes back to the Department of Oriental Rhetoric and the Faculty of History and Philology of Kazan Imperial University.
The Institute comprises 3 Higher Schools:
The majors of the Higher School of International Relations and World History are focused on International Relations, Region Studies, World History, Archeology, Anthropology and Ethnology, the mutual cultural influence and interaction between the Eastern and Western civilizations, Russian history, culture, traditions and its regions. The cultural heritage preservation is a special focus in the Higher school's scientific and educational activity.
The history of the Higher School of Oriental Studies - the Oriental Department - dates back to 1807 when the Department of Oriental Rhetoric was founded in Kazan Imperial University. Today, the Higher School of Oriental Studies is one of Russia's leading centres for orientalists' training. It continues the traditions of Kazan Oriental School and develops an integrated approach to studying the countries of the East.
The main mission of the Higher School of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies is to train highly qualified professional translators and interpreters, proficient in three foreign languages and modern translation technologies. We also prepare researchers in the field of translation theory, history and methodology.
