Ambassador Johnson Agara Olwa and his colleagues, Henry Sanyu and Susan Okodi, met with Vice-Rector Linar Latypov on 22nd March.
The delegation arrived to Tatarstan on 20th March. Before their trip to KFU, the guests already toured the Mayor's Office of Kazan, the Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce, Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, and IT Park.
Vice-Rector Latypov shared that KFU is currently a home for students from over a dozen African countries. He reminisced very warmly about his own visits to Africa, including a two-year stay in Zaire. As usual, he showed a brief presentation and invited Ugandan scientists to arrange contacts with their peers in Kazan.
In his response, Ambassador Olwa thanked everyone for a warm welcome. He emphasized that the Soviet Union was especially friendly to his nation, and Russia continues this trend. As for the University, he was surprised by the combination of excellent infrastructure and very affordable tuition fees. Many Ugandans have received education in Russia; however, currently there is not much awareness about educational opportunities here among Ugandans. The Ambassador noted that this should be changed through joint effort.
He invited Tatarstani academics to visit Uganda and mentioned an upcoming event in May in Moscow where first acquaintances can be made.
