The main event, as usual, was held at the Universiade Village dorm complex.
Among the honored guests were Minister of the Economy of Tatarstan Farid Abdulganiev, First Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs of Tatarstan Timur Suleymanov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan German Lerner, Head of the Committee for Children and Youth Affairs of Kazan Municipality Ayrat Faizov, and others.
Rector Ilshat Gafurov congratulated the enrollees with what is poised to become the most exciting time of their lives. 11,240 young men and women have joined the University's ranks this year, with more to come from overseas.
“You have chosen Kazan Federal University. I am convinced that this is the correct choice,” quipped Dr. Gafurov in his greeting. He elaborated on how Kazan Federal has transformed into a major center of education and science with 160 global partners. International students from 94 countries have decided to stay in Kazan for their studies.
The Rector opined that today's alumni are tasked with becoming more versatile and flexible in the face of the highly competitive and dynamic labor market. He urged freshmen to discover their potential in education, research, arts, sports, and community work.
The evening continued with music performances, small contests, and a student oath.
1st September was marked with similar events at many institutes and both University-affiliated secondary schools, attended by vice-rectors and invited dignitaries.
