Configuration of planned carbon polygon discussed at round table

Rector Ilshat Gafurov invited the involved parties to meet on March 24.

He was joined by Vice-Premier of Tatarstsan Leyla Fazleeva, General Director of TNKI Holding Rafinat Yarullin, carbon polygon expert Aleksey Yeliseev, and representatives of KFU and Tatarstan Academy of Sciences.

The decision to launch the polygon was made during Vice-Premier of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko’s visit to the University. The project aims to research greenhouse gas emissions across various terrains.

During the meeting, Rector Gafurov noted that Tatarstan is a nice example of industrial landscapes mixed with natural habitats, which makes it a good spot for a carbon polygon.

Deputy Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences Maria Kozhevnikova provided some details about the project. In particular, she informed that the polygon will comprise three spots in Tatarstan – one at the Volga-Kama Reserve in the northwest of the province, one at the Lower Kama National Park in the northeast, and another one in the southeast.
