Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology
The Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology was established in 2016 on the basis of the Department of Archeology and Ethnology. In 2016, as a result of the reorganization, the faculty of the Department of Tatar Studies and Turkic languages joined the Department.
Since September 1, 2016, the Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology is part of the division of the Higher School of Historical Sciences and World Cultural Heritage of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of KFU.
At present, the Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology consists of three sectors: “The History of Tatarstan” (headed by Prof. R. R. Fakhrutdinov), “Archeology” (headed by Assoc. Prof. E. E. Vorobyova) and “Ethnology” (headed by Prof. T. A. Titova). 35 academicians work at the department, including 11 Doctors of Science, 19 Candidates of Science, 3 lecturers, 2 asst. lecturers.
The mission of the Department is to be a leader in the creation of advanced educational and innovative technologies, fundamental and applied research in the field of the history of Tatarstan, archeology, and ethnology.
The main goal of the graduating Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology is the implementation of educational, methodical and research activities in the field of the history of Tatarstan, archeology and ethnology, educational work with students, as well as training of scientific and pedagogical personnel, professional retraining and advanced training in the history of Tatarstan, archeology and ethnology.
The activity of the Department is aimed at the following tasks:
Courseware;
Organization and carrying out of research works on the profile of the department;
Coordination and control of education and methodical work of the department;
Modernization of training technology and introduction of perspective forms of educational process organization;
Analysis, synthesis and extension of best practices in the teaching of academic disciplines;
Refinement of teaching of basic and special disciplines in the process of mastering higher education programs;
Coordination and control of lecturers research work and organization of students research work;
Organization and conducting of educational work with students.

The main research directions of the Department are: “Archaeological researches of the Volga region monuments. Medieval cities: craft, trade, culture”, “Golden Horde archeology of the Lower Volga region”, “Problems of ethnic archeology of the Volga and the Kama region peoples”, “Strategies and practices for the ethnicity realization in a multinational region”, “Interethnic interaction in polyethnic regions”, “Strategies and boundaries for migrants identity maintaining and adaptation”, “Strategies for maintaining group identity in ethnic and religious groups”, “Traditions Constructions: Mythology and Practice”.
The Department of the History of Tatarstan, Archeology and Ethnology actively develops academic network with both Russian historians and foreign ones, participating in international projects, grants, conferences and symposia. Academics of the Department carry out joint research projects with universities of the USA (Chicago, Madison), Great Britain (Durham), Hungary.
