He was accompanied by Rector Ilshat Gafurov and KFU staff.
Head of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) in Tatarstan Marina Patyashina and General Director of TAIF Ruslan Shigabutdinov arrived together with the President during this visit on 20th June.
Mr. Minnikhanov walked through the Center’s (RCCPRM) outpatient ward, analytical center, neurological rehabilitation complex, surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care units, as well as research labs and special wards for persons with limited mobility.
The guests were informed that the Center for Precision and Regenerative Medicine was established at Kazan Federal University in cooperation with Cornell University and the University of Nottingham; its activities are currently focused on cancer, autoimmune diseases, and regenerative medicine. The Center comprises a research facility and a clinical facility, which are situated in different buildings in Kazan city center.
Diagnostics at the clinical facility are based on cutting edge tools and aim to streamline clinical trials of new technology and medications. The process is based on multi-omics approaches.
The surgery unit is equipped with high-definition video conferencing devices, while the intensive care unit has all the necessary tools to help with severe cases of organ failure.
Apart from that, RCCPRM includes a HLA typing lab for bone marrow donors, a PCR lab and a bacteriology lab; all information is channeled to a bioinformatics computing unit for deeper analysis.
Rector Gafurov commented, “The Center was created specifically to facilitate technology transfer to our University Clinic. Its modern infrastructure provides for research and implementation of basically any new biomedical technology. There is top-notch medical equipment, research staff, physicians, biologists, and IT experts. Their efforts are targeted towards the betterment of diagnostics and treatment.”
He said that the Center will combine efforts with the already existing Pharmaceutics Center for a synergistic effect in medical help.
Mr. Minnikhanov and Mr. Gafurov then congratulated the staff on the occasion of the Day of Medical Workers (a professional holiday celebrated on the third Sunday of June).
