'Human-Robot Interaction: Friends, Slaveholders, or Competitors?' – this and other issues were discussed at the Center for Contemporary Culture 'Smena' last Friday at a lecture by Professor Evgeni Magid

On July 30, a Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems (LIRS) of the Institute of Information Technology and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) KFU Professor Evgeni Magid gave a lecture on the following topic:

"Human-robot interaction: friends, slaveholders or competitors?".

The event was held in the center of modern culture "Smena".

Human-robot interaction is an interdisciplinary field that requires the involvement not only roboticists and programmers, but also psychologists, sociologists, and lawyers in order to solve the key issues of integrating robots into human everyday life.

Isaac Asimov's law and the uncanny valley formulated by the Japanese robotics scientist and engineer Masahiro Mori, which aroused special interest of the audience. This phenomenon says that robots, who were created to arouse sympathy and have a human-like appearance, may cause feeling of fear in people.

The final part of the lecture was held in a question-and-answer format, where the topics of further robotization of education, the prospect of the appearance of humanoid emotions and feelings in a robot, and a larger-scale introduction of robots in medicine were touched upon.
