Rector Ilshat Gafurov visited the ceremony on 21st October.
The event took place at the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences. It was headed by Prime Minister of Tatarstan Aleksey Pesoshin, who personally congratulated the awardee.
In the 20-year history of the prize, Dr. Sinyashin, Director of the Kazan Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (KCRAS), is a third Russian national to have won. He has co-authored over 200 papers and has 15 patents. His specializations are organic chemistry, organophosphorous compounds, fullerenes, and electrical synthesis.
Dr. Gafurov contributed with his commendations to the laureate, ‘I am especially pleased to be present in this room and to congratulate Oleg Sinyashin, an alumnus of Kazan University. Chemistry has been an important part of research since the day the University was established. It’s very pleasant that the award is given by Aleksey Pesoshin, who is also our graduate. It’s symbolic that our alumnus is receiving this prize during the University’s 215th anniversary year.’
After the ceremony, Sinyashin gave a lecture on organophosphorous compounds.
Notably, Alexander Arbuzov, the famous scientist who lent his name to the award, was also an expert in phosphorous chemistry. The prize was established in 1997.
