From April 15 to April 18, 2020, the XV International Conference on Electromechanics and Robotics “Zavalishin's Readings 2020” was held at St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation together with XIII International Scientific and Technical Conference "Vibration-2019. The vibration technology, mechatronics and controlled machines" in Ufa State Oil Technical University.
This year the participation of the conference was virtual on the Leader-ID platform according to Order No. 398 of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation of March 14, 2020 in the current epidemiological situation in the world.
The 2020th year is a jubilee year for the Zavalishin's Readings, the conference was conceptually transformed, attracting new scientific directions and involving new scientists. This year, the conference was co-organized by the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI) and the St. Petersburg Institute of Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS) in collaboration with South-West State University, Ufa State Oil Technical University (USOTU) and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project No. 20-08-20030), which allowed the conference to be held at a high international level.
The conference was opened by the director of the Institute of Innovative Technologies in Electromechanics and Robotics of SUAI Shishlakov Vladislav Fedorovich, the director of SPIIRAS, the head of the Department of Electromechanics and Robotics of SUAI Ronzhin Andrey Leonidovich, the vice-rector for science and innovations of South-Western State University Larina Olga Grigoryevna and the director of the Center for Digital Technologies and Robotics Hlyupin Pavel Alexandrovich.
At the conference, 3 students from the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems of the Higher Institute of ITIS KFU made presentations on robotics. Elvira Chebotareva, a second year student of the Master's program “Intelligent Robotics”, made a presentation on the topic: “Laser Rangefinder and Monocular Camera Data Fusion for Human-Following Algorithm by PMB-2 Mobile Robot in Simulated Gazebo Environment”, Authors: Chebotareva E., Hsia KH., Yakovlev K., Magid E.
Employee and graduate student Ramil Safin presented the work on the topic: “Evaluation of visual SLAM methods in USAR applications using ROS/Gazebo simulation”, Authors: Safin R., Lavrenov R., Martinez-Garcia E.
An undergraduate student Eldar Mingachev presented a paper: “Comparative Analyses of Monocular SLAM Algorithms Using TUM & EuRoC Benchmarks”, Authors: Mingachev E., Lavrenov R., Magid E., Svinin M.
It should be noted that LIRS has been participating in this conference for the third year in a row. Last year, Evgeni Magid, a professor at the Higher Institute of Information Technology and Intelligent Systems (ITIS) of KFU, was invited as a keynote speaker. This year, Professor Magid moderated 1 and 3 sections of “Robotics and Automation. This year, key reports were presented by a number of leading foreign and Russian scientists, including representatives of the Ufa Aviation State Technical University, Russia - Professor Oleg Darintsev, Professor Vladimir Fetisov, Ufa State Oil Technical University, Russia - Associate Professor Sergei Konesev, Associate Professor of the Institute of Anthropomatics and Robotics of the Technological Institute Karlsruhe, Germany and Mamaev, professors of the National Autonomous University, Mexico Jesus Savage, professors Robert Sattarov, and an associate professor of Nanjing University of Astronautics and Aeronautics, China Linfei Xiao.
The conference simultaneously covered 13 time zones from Mexico City to Tomsk. More than 100 speakers from such countries as Turkey, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan and 18 cities of Russia: Belgorod, Biysk, Voronezh, Innopolis, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kursk, Lipetsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Sevastopol, Surgut, Tambov, Tomsk, Tula, Ulyanovsk, Ufa presented their papers.
The organizers noted that the conference participants successfully demonstrated the latest Russian and foreign developments in the field of robotics, automation, electric power and control in technical systems. The peer-reviewed articles that got positive reviews of the international program committee are published in the collections of works "Zavalishin's readings - 2020" in Russian and in "Zavalishin's Readings ER (ZR) - 2020" in English. Zavalishin's Readings ER (ZR) 2020 will be released by Springer and indexed in the Scopus database.
Evgeni Magid tells about the conference: “For the first time I take part in the conference in an online format. On the one hand it gives the opportunity to save time on travel and budget for paying for tickets and hotels and to participate in an international event while sitting with a cup of tea in your comfortable chair. On the other hand, communicating with colleagues through a monitor does not allow you to build new relationships and scientific collaborations, and the online presentation format is much more difficult for speakers than a personal presentation to a “live” audience. Nevertheless, LIRS students did an excellent presenting of the getting results, vividly talked about their research in high-quality English, answered questions and very actively asked other speakers questions.”
