The department conducts research in “Spatial and functional structure, the dynamics of biodiversity and ecosystem productivity of zonal ecotone”. The following research areas are developed in this connection:

• Population ecology of plants, invertebrates and terrestrial vertebrates
• Climatic and eco-typological patterns of ecosystem productivity
