Department of Design and National Arts was founded in 2005 when the first batch of arts students who graduated from art schools of Tatarstan and Russia was admitted. The department trains specialists in the area of vocational training and design.

The high efficiency of the educational process is due to the use of both traditional and innovative teaching methods, mostly academic studies in painting and profound use of information technologies.
Training programs consist of the following subjects: history, foreign language, physical education, pedagogy (to a greater or lesser amount), ethnic culture of the Volga peoples, world culture, history of design, history of art, contemporary art and psychology of creativity. A large part of curriculum includes design - engineering, basics of project graphics, engineering, plastic modeling, computer design, information technology, etc. The quality of training is facilitated by the implementation of academic knowledge in various practical studies. The effectiveness of this approach is proved by the students' victories in international and Russian competitions and exhibitions of computer design, arts and crafts.
Academic staff includes members of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation, members of the Union of Designers of Russia, Honored Architects of the Republic of Tatarstan, Honored Art Workers of the Republic of Tatarstan, doctors and candidates of sciences.
Department of Design and National Arts holds scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions of creative works by students, well-known artists and designers of Russia and foreign countries, academic competitions for schoolchildren and students. One of the events organized by the department and most frequently visited by the general public is a monthly literary and artistic Renaissance Salon.
