Centre of Turkey Study of the Institute named after Yunus Emre
Centre of Turkey Study is a joint project of Kazan Federal University and the Institute named after Yunus Emre. The aim of this scientific - educational and cultural centre is a comprehensive study of Turkey. It was founded on September 28, 2012 under the agreement signed between the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations of Kazan Federal University and the Institute named after Yunus Emre (Ankara).
The Centre introduces the culture, art and history of Turkey, trains those who want to learn the Turkish language.
With the assistance of the Centre a numerous Turkological conferences and symposia with the university students and teachers, academics, invited from Turkey, are held.
With the participation of the Centre cultural events are held regularly. They are exhibitions of works by Turkish artists and photographers; concerts by invited from Turkey dancers and vocal groups; evenings of poetry and literature. All these is due to the work of the Centre.
There is a library where one can find about 2500 books on the language, literature, Art, history, politics and the economy of the country. The entrance is free.
The Centre focuses on the study of Turkish. There are evening language courses since September 2013. They are of six levels (A1-C2) according to the Common European Framework. Each consists of 144 academic hours. More than 40 students attended the courses last year and they continue their learning this year. This year 30 students applied for the courses. Completing each level the students do final exams and get a certificate which gives them an opportunity to continue their learning of the following level.
The Centre provides scholarships for summer language courses. Foreign students can live, learn Turkish, take part in social and cultural events and go on excursions around the country without any payment. The students of the department and the Institute often take the advantage of this opportunity.
The Centre of Turkish culture through the Yunus Emre Foundation provides scholarships to foreign students to study at Universities in Turkey. This program is called "Turkish scholarships» (Türkiye Bursları, Yunus Emre Bursları).
Every four months at the Centre anyone can sit “examination on the knowledge of the Turkish language” (Türkçe Yeterlilik Sınavı - TYS). According to the results of the exam, participants receive a certificate with a certain level of knowledge of the Turkish language. This certificate (if any good results) gives you the opportunity to work as a translator or a teacher and to enter higher education Institutions in Turkey, without any preparatory language courses, etc.
