The first batch of renovations is close to completion.
Talking about translational medicine at the Clinic’s main facility on Chekhov Street, the Rector emphasized that this has become possible because of the unification of research and clinical practice, “The University’s development as an international leader would be impeded without a clinic. Unlike overseas, in our case the Clinic is a structural unit of the Unviersity”.
Chief Medical Officer of the UC Almir Abashev talked about the “Friendly Clinic” concept. A patient is always the center of attention, and it’s important to help them quickly and effectively.
After the renovations 40 thousand Kazanites will be able to receive medical services on a whole new level.
Aside from internet appointments and a call center, the number of general practitioners will also rise. They will no longer take house calls and instead will devote all the work hours to working at the Clinic. House calls will be taken over by paramedic teams. Sick leave certificates and hospitalization referrals will be given at a separate office (instead of a general practitioner’s office).
The next stop was at 18 Volkov Street, a KFU facility. The building serves as a clinical base for the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. Here are the Department of Fundamental Basics of Clinical Medicine and several wards – endocrinology, neurology, clinical therapy, and functional diagnostics. The KFU-RIKEN Lab, specializing in genome sequencing and PCR testing, is also situated here.
Director of the IFMB Andrey Kiyasov told the journalists, «We are broadening the horizons of translational research thanks to the unique potential of the University. Our faculties together with Cochrane Russia (localized at KFU) will develop evidence-based medicine as phase 3 of translational research. During phase 4 ethnographers and historians will join in to create new methods of personalized diagnostics factoring in genetic specifics of local ethnic groups».
Everything is reformatted so as to serve the new Translational 7P Medicine strategy. Even the KFU Food Production Office was moved to a single facility. The kitchen produces dietary items for all the University facilities. The media representatives used this opportunity to taste some of the specimens themselves. The Office, as we mentioned in our article, also serves as a dorm canteen.
