Final events of the Africa Day festival were held on June 2nd.
African students presented some of their homelands' traditional items at UNICS Center, such as wooden figurines, kitchen utensils, jewelry, clothing and shoes, bags, hats, and even some spices. Among the most unusual items were cobra leather shoes and a bespoke leather briefcase.
The small exhibition included showpieces provided by students from Ghana, Zambia, Benin, Kenya, Congo, Morocco, Nigeria, Chad, and Egypt. The display was visited by Vice-Rector Linar Latypov and Head of the Adaptation Services Unit Sergey Tsvetkov.
«It's a marvelous continent! Africa's scents and its music are inimitable and will stay forever in my memory», said impressed Dr. Latypov who spent two years of his army service (1978 - 1980) in Congo.
Mr. Tsvetkov informed that there are 150 African students at KFU. They have established the African Students' Union which maintains contacts from students from the continents at other Kazani universities. Sports competitions are held, such as this year's futsal tournament; its winners were awarded at a gala which took place after the exhibition in UNICS.
