Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University was established on November 1, 2013. The historical roots of the Institute trace back to 1804 - the year of foundation of Imperial Kazan University.

The mission of the Institute is assistance to occurrence of KFU in TOP 100 of the best higher education institutions of the world, to innovative development of the Republic of Tatarstan, Volga Federal District and the country in general, to their positioning on the international arena by organizing complex scientific researches, ensuring unity of scientific and educational space, and also formation of a highly qualified and competitive personnel of a new type capable to highly productive professional activity in the polyethnic, polykonfessional, polycultural conditions.
Two thousand six hundred and forty three students are trained here. Among them there are 195 students from other countries. 29 Doctors of Science and 83 Candidates of Science are employed on regular basis. 12 Professors are from non-CIS countries.
The Institute trains bachelors in the following fields: History and Archeology, Oriental and African Studies, International Relations, Foreign Regional Studies, Linguistics, Anthropology and Ethnology, Cultural Studies, History of Arts, Museology and Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage and Pedagogical Education. The Institute also trains masters in the following training fields: International Relations, History and Archeology, Anthropology and Ethnology, Pedagogical Education, Art Studies (Arts History). The following training fields are to be opened soon: Records and Archive Management, and Tourism.
The Institute comprises 3 divisions, Research and Academic division, Museum of Archeology and Museum of Ethnography, Academic facility for practical trainings in Bilyarsk village in Alekseevsky district of the Tatarstan Republic, Centre for additional educational services, Research and Academic Centres and Research laboratories, Centres for Country studies.
Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies is the important participant of the implementation of Kazan Federal University Program of competitive growth. As a result of for-profit education the income was over 88 million rubles in 2014, about 52 million rubles from Research and Development. The share of foreign professors, lecturers and researchers is 6,3% and the share foreign students is 5,3%.
