A cavalcade of trucks arrived to KFU’s largest dorm complex on 21st April.
As announced previously, all students are to regularly receive special packages with groceries; they are both bought by the University and provided free of charge by a number of sponsors. Handouts at other dorms took place earlier.
Uzbekistani national Humoyun Abduzhabbarov, a student of the Institute of Physics, and his classmates held a poll with the help from the Deputy Director of the Institute Alsu Sakhbieva.
«We found out that all students experience some financial strain, and this help from the university will be very much welcomed. A quarter of respondents admitted that they are in great need of food and financial support. It is especially hard for student families and foreign students. About a third of the students of the Institute of Physics who currently live in dormitories are representatives of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and African countries. I‘ve heard that a university student employment program will soon be adopted, including citizens of other states. This is just great! By the way, one sophomore from Turkmenistan has already found a job - she will help foreign first-year students to learn physics and Russian,» said Abduzhabbarov.
Chairman of the Student Council of Building 21 at the Universiade Village Yevgeny Titov, a senior at the Institute of Chemistry, hails from Saratov Oblast.
“Everyone is having a hard time right now. Some students have lost the opportunity to earn money, others cannot receive funds from their parents because of banking problems. This help provided by the university is very valuable. Moreover, it helps us maintain the self-isolation mode. I am expressing gratitude on behalf all nonresident students (residents of the Russian Far East and Kamchatka study here), as well as from those who came to study from abroad - from Turkmenistan, China, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Ghana, and Kazakhstan,» he shared.
A grocery store at the Universiade Village is also offering 50% discounts on a number of indispensable goods.
Among the most significant private sponsors are Nefis Cosmetics, Agrosila Group, Service Agro, Tatagroholding, Agro Invest, Ak Bars Bank, Ak Bars Holding, and Ulyanovsk Union of Agricultural Producers. The municipal districts that offered help to the Kazan Campus are Rybnaya Sloboda, Apastovo, Zelenodolsk, Tetyushi, and Cheremshan.
