Laboratory team
We are an international laboratory supported by Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University (Russia) and RIKEN (Japan). We are focused on application of genomics and other omics technologies for uncovery of unique adaptations of living organism to extreme environments (including spaceflight) and developing of new technologies based on these mechanisms. Our special interest are ametabolic water-free (anhydrobiosis) and hypometabolic (torpor and hibernation) states in animals and the molecular mechanism behind. We develope new techniques for dry preservation of living cells for biomedical and agricultural needs.
We also study genome-wide patterns of activity of cis-regulatory elements using advanced transcriptomics techniques in model and non-model organisms.
In the field of translational medicine we are interested in hereditary genomics component in major types of cancers. In cooperation with leading medical institutions in Russia and Japan we develop country-wide database for pathogenic germline cancer mutations and link it to the medical needs.
