Nikolai Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics was established in 2011 by merging the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Kazan University and Nikolai Chebotarev Research Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics. More than 780 students study and about 100 highly qualified professors work at the departments of mathematics, mechanics and pedagogical education.

The education is supported by ten departments and the laboratory of computer facilities equipped with high-performance systems. The Institute collaborates with leading Universities, research centres and industrial enterprises in Russian Federation, neighbouring and foreign countries.

Main research areas are: Fundamental and Applied Mathematics, Fluid and Solid Mechanics.

Education

Following the principles of Bologna declaration, Nikolai Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics implements educational programs of two levels:

• Bachelor's Degree program (first cycle) provides students with the knowledge according to the specialty chosen and basic information from other academic fields. After completion the graduate receives a state Diploma of higher education with the Bachelor's Degree conferred. The Bachelor's Diploma gives the opportunity to hold a position including higher education as a qualification criterion. The Bachelor's Diploma gives the right to continue education at the Master's Degree program.
• Master's Degree program (second cycle) provides students education in professional area, which is narrower than in the Bachelor's Degree program. Master's program graduates have an opportunity to continue education at postgraduate level
