The Student March and other events occurred on May 3rd.
The March itself started at Kazan Kremlin where flowers were laid at Musa Jalil's monument. KFU executives, government officials, and students were joined by the Great Patriotic War veterans who then headed the marching column to the University.
The Student March was held for the third time. The gathering including a BTR-80 armored personnel carrier, a group of Kazan Tank Military school students, a student battalion, a group of Suvorov Military School cadets, and the Immortal Regiment with portraits of ancestors who left for the war over seventy years ago.
After arriving to the KFU Main Building Rector Ilshat Gafurov addressed the audience, thanked the veterans and those in attendance and spoke about the University's contribution to the war effort. In particular, he reminded that by 1943 70% of students and academics were at the fronts, many of them to never return to their families and friends. Vice-Premier of Tatarstan Vasil Shaykhraziev joined in with a commemorative speech. War veteran, Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Kuznetsov expressed his gratitude for the celebration and best wishes of peace and happiness to everyone.
The meeting continued with several performances, including songs and poems, and a minute of silence. The participants were then accompanied to the Rector's Garden to lay flowers to the memorial of the University veterans.
The celebration concluded with a special lunch for the veterans arranged at the University. The Rector thanked them once again for their valor and assured them that new generations always remember and cherish their heroic deeds.
