International Archeological School will start on 19 August 2014 in Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Reserve.
Over 100 prominent scientists and young researchers from all major research centres of Russia and close abroad manifested their desire to participate in the Forum. Kazan Federal University and Archeological Institute of Tatarstan Academy of Science became coorganizers of the event.
The School aims to coordinate archeologists' efforts to preserve historical monuments and find new approaches to the demonstration of archeological finds and reconstruction of ancestors' lifestyle.
The School will focus on experimental archeological methods enabling to restore ancient and medieval crafts techniques, and on practical tasks archeologists deal with. Research and application labs in different areas will start their activities, including ancient non-ferrous metallurgy and metal works history, ferrous metallurgy and smithing history, paleoanthropology, archeozoology, preservation of cultural heritage in Russia and CIS, nondestructive research technologies for archeological monuments, ancient ceramics history.
The School is organized with the assistance of the Tatarstan Foundation for Revival of Historical and Cultural Monuments and under the integrated project "Cultural Heritage: Ancient Bolgar and Island Town Sviyazhsk" that helped Bolgar enter the UNESCO World Heritage List. Under the mentioned project Bolgar has become one of the major centres for the study and preservation of cultural heritage.
Further development of the International Archeological School in Bolgar will allow unlocking Tatarstan's scientific and academic potential. In the short-run the School will become the integration centre for Eurasian archeology. The involvement of young experts will give a grounding for the strategic making Bolgar into a major centre of international research cooperation in archeology and potentially a coordination centre for global research projects.
