Three students became the favorites among voters in the «New Year at KFU» contest. They met with Rector Ilshat Gafurov.
The tradition started in 2014 during 210th anniversary celebrations. It was natural to expect that this year’s contest wouldn’t attract as much attention, but the situation turned to be quite the opposite. So much so that three winners were chosen.
Nekruz Saidov and Aydar Zagirov – two winners of the popular vote – pulled all strings to be the leaders. Aydar collected more than 9,000 likes with the help of friends from his hometown and other Russian universities. The third winner was Nailya Iskhakova – she was chosen by the KFU’s website and “Kazan University” newspaper staff.
The breakfast was initially planned for 30 minutes but took a whole hour. The students used this time to ask some serious questions – not only about their own profession but also about the educational system, the Russian economy, geopolitical matters and even about the Rector’s own student experience.
After the meeting Dr. Gafurov had some warm praise to express about his companions: “Students nowadays are more ambitious, they aim at studying specifically the subjects they’ll need in the future. And they have more opportunities for personal growth”.
Such meetings will undoubtedly become a frequent occurrence at the University.
