Dean of the Higher School - Tatiana G. Bochina, Doctor of Philology, Professor
The Jan Baudouin de Courtenay Higher School of Russian Language and Intercultural Communication trains bachelors, masters and post-graduate students to be organizers, coordinators of international cooperation, researchers, teachers, and curriculum designers. Our graduates freely carry out professional activities in a global educational environment and serve as effective foreign language teachers in secondary schools and high schools, applying innovative teaching and info-communicational technologies. The Master’s program in Russian as a Foreign Language, taken by more than 100 foreign students, received public and international accreditation from the German accreditation agency Evalag. In this area, the Master's dual degree program is implemented in cooperation with Beijing International Studies University.
By implementing student exchange programs, the Higher School provides annual and semester training to students from 80 partner universities in China, Europe, the USA and Japan, and provides special language training in Russian as a Foreign Language (from level A1 to C1).
Teachers at the Higher School carry out language training for foreign students, undergraduates, and graduate students studying at various KFU institutes, preparing foreign citizens for comprehensive exams in Russian as a foreign language, Russian history and the fundamentals of Russian legislation, thereby providing state certification in Russian as a foreign language, which is part of obtaining Russian citizenship.
The Higher School’s faculty includes highly professional scholars and instructors, who are members of organizations such as the National Association of Teachers of English (NATE), Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), the Russian Communication Association (RCA), and the Association of Teachers of English in the Republic of Tatarstan (RegELTA). Along with Russian scholars, several disciplines (English, Arabic, Chinese) are taught by foreign specialists.
The Higher School’s faculty members, Ph.D. candidates, and graduate students conduct research in the fields of comparative linguistics and the study of culture, alongside Russian studies and methods of teaching and learning languages. They explore the dynamic processes of oral and written language, using quantitative research methods to study text corpora and linguistic databases. Their studies also focus on research questions related to CLIL (content and language integrated learning), bilingualism, bilingual education, and the multilingual education of gifted children.
