UNESCO/IUGS International Geoscience Programme Project 609
Full title of Project:Climate-environmental deteriorations during greenhouse phases: Causes and consequences of short-term Cretaceous sea-level changes” (IGCP 609)
Short title of Project: Cretaceous Sea-Level Changes
Project Leader(s) (and their Countries): Michael Wagreich (Austria), Xiumian Hu (China), Silke Voigt (Germany ), Julleh J. Rahman (Bangladesh), Ismail O. Yilmaz (Turkey), Svetlana Zorina (Russia)
Proposed Duration of Project 2013-2017
Scientific Achievements: The project will generate new scientific data of Cretaceous greenhouse time and provide us a new curve of Cretaceous sea-level change.
Project Objectives: The three research aims of the project proposed which are 1) to clarify x100kyr scale change of sea-level and also its cause, 2) to calculate actual rate of sea-level change during Cretaceous super-greenhouse period, and 3) to clarify the relation to climate change and oceanic anoxia/oxidation events, which are aligned with IGCP, UNESCO and IUGS, will provide many seeds for future research.
Project Meetings: Five special symposium/workshops, field excursion, special publications (e.g. proceedings of the symposium), training courses, and knowledge transfer on field and/or laboratory work are planned. Most of the symposia will take place in association with large meetings of major geoscience societies.
