International Laboratory for Comparative Urban Studies

International Laboratory for Comparative Urban Studies is a joint project of the Kazan federal university and the University of Birmingham. Its primary goal is to provide a high-quality cross-disciplinary research on urban development challenges incl. life quality, urban environment and ecology, public health, culture and identity, in order to accelerate the welfare of urban residents and advance the urban management efficiency.

Centre would hold key positions and is an attractive Russian partner to cooperate with in applying for the grants of European program Horizon, European National research funding councils and Russian research fund, etc.

The key features of the Laboratory: 

• Royal Town Planning accreditation of the Master’s program in town planning at the University of Birmingham
• Cross-disciplinary research: uniting together efforts of economists, sociologists, geographers, architects for the improvement and redevelopment of urban space.
• Many years of experience in the field of sociological, marketing, economic and ecological research on Russian and foreign markets in cooperation with the Centre for prospective economic studies of the Academy of science of the republic of Tatarstan. Among the contractors of the latter are the recognized Russian and International Corporation: World Bank, Pricewaterhousecoopers, Ministry of Health Care and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Central Office of the Government of the Russian Federation, etc.
• Collaboration with leading sociological centers and joint expertise. Our team is represented by more than 100 sociological research groups of federal and regional sociological centers and universities. We conduct our research in 8 federal districts, 137 Russian cities and rural areas.
• Cooperation with all city stakeholders: laboratory projects are carried out in collaboration and with the support of municipality, academic and business communities and citizenry.
