An idea to create this museum appeared in 1970, during the preparation for the 100th anniversary celebration of Kazan State Pedagogical Institute (later Tatar State University of Humanities and Education, which became a part of the Kazan Federal University in 2011).
Lecturers and veterans of the Pedagogical Institute addressed M.Z. Zakiev, KSPI Rector, to open their own history museum. The rector supported this idea and the question was discussed by institute’s staff. As a result, the museum board was established. This idea was muchly supported by History teachers N.P. Munkov, M.Z. Tutaev, K.R. Sinitsyna, GPW Veterans R.V. Gataullin , L.N. Furer, T.Y.Kurbanov, S.A. Akhmadullin, S.M. Iskhakova and others. They requested staff members and veterans to hand any materials to the museum. One of the major difficulties was to find a suitable place for the museum. Thanks to the Rector Prof. M.Z. Zakiev and the secretary of party organization A.A. Mikheeva, the place was found and the museum was launched in 1977 to the 100th anniversary of KSPI.
In 1980s the museum was closed because of the lack of classrooms for students. All the collections of museum materials were removed to the basement and many of them were lost.
In 2003 KSPY Rector Z.G. Nigmatov made a decision to restore the museum. The place was found and since Spring of 2003 the layout of the museum was under construction. After its approval in July, the exhibition started being prepared. The author of the museum’s conception is Kraeva L.G., Associate Professor, Miroshnichenko L.V., Vice-Rector for Education, Professor. From 2006 to 2011 the museum was open at TSUHE, and after its merge with the Federal university it was decided to remove the museum collection back to its historical venue.
