Medical Simulation and Accreditation Center
High technology requires highly trained staff.
That is why the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology aims as high as possible in its training methods and equipment. Probably the most outstanding in this regard is the new Medical Simulation and Accreditation Center.
Occupying 400 sqm in the Institute's building are a number of model hospital facilities, such as reception ward, endoscopy room, virtual operating theater, virtual ICU, maternity ward, pediatrics ward, children's ICU.
Students can train skills of team working and decision-making in difficult clinical situations, including those requiring emergency medical aid. The facility layout allows training medical professionals to reduce accidents during surgery, prescription, and general practice. The training starts with receiving emergency patients arriving in an ambulance (the full-size replica also situated inside the Simulation Center). Then, preliminary diagnostics and – if the situation calls for it – a patient can be moved directly to the operating room. After that – recovery ward.
The Center has dozens of mannequins (adults, kids, pregnant women) and phantom equipment to simulate some diagnostics manipulations (delivery, uterus examination, etc.).
Eidos LLC, a medical simulation equipment manufacturer, is also located here. It specializes in medical mannequins with an incredibly high degree of authenticity.
The mannequins have a number of wireless transducers that indicate the student's performance during test surgeries. In addition, they are able to emulate many medical conditions, among them anaphylactic shocks, cardiac angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure with pulmonary edema, insecticide poisoning, asthma, splenic rupture, subdural hematoma, chest wounds, and many others.
Anaesthesiology mannequin is also able to emulate all types of conditions and reactions to administered drugs, such as pupillary response, loss of consciousness, and heart rate.
The simulators allow to imitate all the operating staff: anaesthesiologists, first and assisting surgeons, emergency room doctors, nurses.
The gallery on the second floor is a very convenient observation deck for tutors and spectators.
Dental Phantom Class
Dentist room was one of the first to be introduced. Plastic “patients” are always at students' service.
Operating ward
It fully imitates the real ones, with a cloakroom, a washing room, a pre-operating room and operating rooms.
Operating ward must be kept aseptic at all times, so here even the faucets are made exactly as they are in real hospitals – adjusted to be turned off by an elbow to avoid any contact with potential contaminating surfaces.
Delivery ward
The parturient mannequins can show real symptoms of blood hypertension and tachycardia, “babies” can suddenly stop breathing – the full range of serious conditions that a real-life obstetrician must be ready to deal with.
The Center has 14 cameras, that allow to hold live operations. After that, the recording is studied by a supervisor and then observed and analyzed in a study room.
The availability of such practical experience makes KFU being the best choice in Russia for those who strive to become medical professionals.
