Nowadays the teaching staff of the department comprises 41 members, among whom there are 3 Doctors of Philology and 26 Candidates of Philology and Candidates of Education. The main scientific sphere of the Department of comparative linguistics and linguodidactics is the discoursive language analysis organized in the frames of the linguistic school “The Comparative Typology of Languages: Cognitive and Discoursive Researches” run by the Doctor of Philology, Professor, Honoured Scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan Aida Sadykova.
Special attention is given to the problems of concept and conceptual analysis; interaction of language and culture; cognitive basis of linguocultural community; peculiarities of language personalities, their national and invariant composites; correlation of language and real worldviews.
Members of the department study and analyze the problems ofdiscourse, discoursive practice comparisons and means of their formal expression; comparative researches of classical structural typology such as word formation, lexicology, phraseology, grammar, syntax and etc.
Scientific supervision of postgraduate students is realized by the most prominent members of the department: Doctor of Philology, Professor A. Sadykova, Doctor of Philology, Professor M. Solnyshkina, Candidate of Philology, Professor R. Mukhametdinova, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor N. Bashirova. Postgraduate and doctorate major is 10.02.20 – Comparative and Historical, Typological and Contrastive Linguistics. It consists of the research and development of the linguistic theory and methodology by means of the investigation of allied related languages; establishment of correlation between related languages; description of their diachronic and synchronic evolution; study of structural and functional characteristics of languages regardless of the type of their genetic relations; research and description of languages through their systematic comparison in order to identify their peculiarities.
One of the projects realized on the department is called “Promoting Sustainable Excellence in Testing and Assessment of English”. The aim of this project is to develop teaching resources that will form competences and practical skills of testing and evaluating of the language knowledge in order to rise the international competitiveness and students’ mobility. This program is held jointly with European Universities.
Several conferences and contents are going to be organized by the department of comparative linguistics and linguodidactics in 2012.
