The Department is distinguished by orientation on the constant monitoring of the current state of religious and public relations (both from the point of view of religious studies and theology).
About 70% of applicants are non-resident students, mainly due to the fact that some of the courses are unique for Russia (for example, "Law and Religion").
Our graduates work at:
- Security and law enforcement agencies.
- Executive and legislative institutions.
- Teaching (ethics, religion, history of religious thought).
- Forensic experts (mass media and public activity expertise).
- Religious organizations.

History of the Department
Department of Religious Studies was established in 2005.. The Department adminisers graduate programs in Religious Studies (baccalaureate). Inaugural bachelors graduated in 2009. The masters' program was introduced in 2011. B.A. and M.A. in Theology are trained since 2013, and M.A. in Law and Religion - since 2014.
Internships and work practice
During the educational process students of the Department of Religious Studies intern at public institutions, religious and community organizations and get the opportunity to apply their knowledge and establish contacts with potential employers. Student of the department can undertake foreign internships as well, participate in international summer and winter schools, compete for scholarships and grants.
Public expert evaluation is a large part of the Department's work. Over recent years, expert works were provided on behalf of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Education. Currently, two members of the department (R.M.Muhametshin and U.N.Ivanov) are members of the Expert Council for the State Religious Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tatarstan. Head of the Department L.S. Astakhova is in charge of expert evaluation works at Kazan Interregional Center of Expertise.
Our research work is a part of the wider subjects of the Institute's philosophical research, among them: studies and monitoring of contemporary religious situation; contemporary problems of Western and Russian religious studies; methods of teaching religious subjects in secondary and higher school; problems of convergence of secular and religious education.
