A systemic analysis of bacterial gene expression in the course of symptomatic infection was carried out, including that for the asymptomatic stage of plant host colonization (Gorshkov et al., 2018).

The dissociation of the pectobacteria population inside the host plant was demonstrated. The formation of differentiated bacteria phenotypes is timed to the particular host plant "compartment" and/or infection stage. Novel "multicellular" bacterial structures - bacterial emboli - were characterized for the first time (Gorshkov et al., 2014).

Plant susceptible response to pectobacteria invasion associated with the reorganization of the cell wall of the primary xylem vessels was described (Gorshkov et al., 2016).

Extracellular polysaccharides of pectobacteria were identified for the first time and the molecular structure of these polymers was determined (Gorshkov et al., 2017).

One of the criteria of the transformation of latent infection caused by pectobacteria to the symptomatic one was established. The induction of jasmonate-regulated plant responses by coronafacic acid synthesized by pectobacteria leads to the formation of soft rot symptoms (Gorshkov et al., 2018).
