Over 2000 Tatars live in the USA. Two Turkic-Tatar diasporas – in New York and San-Francisco – manage to preserve genuine cultural potential, probably due to centuries-old popular traditions. The article reveals peculiarities of the Tatar diaspora of New York, a racially and culturally heterogeneous, tolerant and dynamic city. The authors views economic, civil, educational, religious and informational practices of the Volga Tatars from the perspective of cultural peculiarity reproduction, participation in multiculturalism of New York and integration into American political society. Modern ethnicities, viewed as reproducers of a distinctive system of ethnocultural practices, are differentiated and contrasted with the background of industrialism, secularization, urbanized and multicultural environment of modern megalopolises.
