Luidmila S. Yakimova is an associate professor at the Institute of chemistry at the Kazan Federal University, Russia. Her main research interest is focused on the supramolecular self-assembly and synthesis of nanostructured hybrid systems based on polyfunctional (thia)calixarenes, pillar[5]arenes and chemically modified silicon dioxide by covalent or non-covalent self-assembly. She further investigates their properties with respect to biological significant substrates, including biopolymers like proteins and DNA. The generation of mono- and mixed systems based on these components will make it possible to control characteristics such as sorption, recognition, and separation of groups of proteins and nucleic acids, as well as increasing the solubility of drugs. Her scientific work is interdisciplinary and combines aspects of supramolecular, organic, inorganic, colloid and polymer chemistry.
