The monograph of the German philologist R.Bartholomä is devoted to a detailed study of Tatar terms in historical retrospect beginning with Tsarist Russia and ending with the post-Soviet period. The author analyzes a vast layer of vocabulary of various scientific disciplines such as mathematics, physics and geography. Particular attention is paid to the etymological, semantic and derivational aspects of the study of lexical units, and peculiarities of linguistic change in the word-stock of the Tatar language.
The authors of the review highly esteem the research conducted by R.Bartholomä in the field of Tatar terminology and note the significant contribution made by this Giessen University researcher to the study of the modern Tatar term system formation with regard to the rapidly developing language contacts, as well as cultural and historical factors in the development of Tatar terminology.
