The article focuses on the documentary records and memoirs, and especially the writer’s letters as an irreplaceable source for studying the impact on the peculiarities of literature development in different periods, the writer’s state of mind and his connection with the external world. Here, the views and requirements imposed on this type of literary monument are remembered. Khasan Tufan’s letters are the letters of an outstanding poet of Tatar literature to his friends – contemporary writers G.Minski and S.Kudash. It is their style, the problems touched upon by the poet and the peculiarities that reduce them to literary writing that are considered in the main part. At the same time the aspects of literary works written in epistolary style are defined.
