COMMON ELEMENTS IN TATAR AND HUNGARIAN PHRASEOLOGY REFLECTING ANCIENT CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC CONTACTS

At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, phraseology again became a focus of linguistic research. Its significance in keeping national mentality is emphasised in works of V.N.Telia (1996) and V.V.Vorobiov (1997), who studied specific cultural traditions reflected in the language and mentality. Our study presents a comparative analysis of similar phraseological structures in Hungarian and Tatar. The Turks’ cultural and linguistic contacts, which determined peculiarities of their culture and language, had a strong impact on national mentality of the Hungarians. Parallel structures in Hungarian and Tatar phraseology reflect common elements in the national mentality of their people. One of the examples is coordinative composites, which are present in the phraseologies of both compared languages, thus proving similarities in derivation. The Hungarian language was formed in the course of extended migrations of the Hungarian people who had many cultural and language contacts with the neighboring nations. The latter resulted in similar phraseological structures in Turkic and Hungarian, which reflect similar world outlooks of the two people.
