History

The Department of Theoretical Foundations of Physical Education (DTFPE) was opened in 1949. Its first head was a graduate of the Leningrad Institute of Physical Culture named after P.F.Lesgaft X.X.Khabibullin. Then in different years the department was headed by A.A.Potseluev, E.I.Aukhadeev, A.S.Chinkin, R.A.Abzalov, N.I. Abzalov. In 1986, two departments were organized on the basis of the Department of DTFPE: the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Physical Education (DTFPE) and the Department of Biomedical Foundations of Physical Education (DBFS). The head of the first was appointed Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor R.A.Abzalov, and the second – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor A.S.Chinkin. In 2015, the Department of Theoretical Foundations of Physical Education was renamed the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture and Sports. Since September 1, 2017, the department has been referred to as "Theory and methodology of physical culture, sports and therapeutic physical culture".

The Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture, Sports and Therapeutic Physical Culture is crucial in the formation of professional competencies of IFMiB students. It is a profiling (graduating), forming a pedagogical worldview by means of physical culture. For a long time, the head of the Department of Theory of Physical Culture was Rinat Abzalov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan, Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the head of the department is the Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Nail Ilyasovich Abzalov.

The teaching staff of the department with academic degrees or titles is 67%, and the percentage of doctors of sciences or professors is 22%. The main activities of the department are: educational, scientific and educational work.
