Growth Areas in Teachers Education Discussed at KFU

The national conference on bachelor’s curricula in education and pedagogy took place on the premises of Institute of Psychology and Education of KFU on June 4th – 5th, 2015.

The conference was a part of International Teachers Education Modenization Forum. More than 150 participants attended, including colleagues from the USA, the UK, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

During the plenary session speakers discussed the subjects of new modules in the teachers education curricula, implementing new professional standards in this area, cooperation and networking between different types of higher educational institutions.

The opening was attended by Rector Ilshat Gafurov, Director of Institute of Psychology and Education Aydar Kalimullin, Head of the Department of General and Social Pedadogy Roza Valeeva. Ilshat Gafurov presented his report called “Modernization of teachers education at KFU”.

Speaking about current affairs, Dr. Gafurov mentioned that the University has become a platform for the new types of professional teacher training. Separate pedagogical divisions are established at different institutes, including Institute of Chemistry, Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies, and Institute of Physics. This is a new distributed education model.

After that the audience listened to two guests of the conference – Viktor Bolotov (Director of Evaluation Centre of the Higher School of Economics) and Ian Menter (Director of Professional Programmes, University of Oxford).

Viktor Bolotov touched upon some of the pressing issues of the reform, namely new modules, practice-oriented additions to the curricula, network cooperation. Prof. Menter talked about the specifics of the British teachers education system.
