The oldest department at the University, whose history is connected with the names of many outstanding scholars, such as Sergei Korzhinsky and Andrei Gordyagin. The department is well-equipped with the necessary expeditionary and laboratory instruments and tools, modern microscopes, largest in the Volga region botanic collections kept in the Museums of Paleontology, Museums of inferior plants and the University Herbarium.

• structure and organization of populations and phytocenoses
• fossil remains and pollen
• peculiarities of embryonic development of plants
• ecologic monitoring of meadow vegetation of the Republic of Tatarstan
• comparative study of population and ecology of herbaceous plants of various life forms
