Mayor of Kazan Satisfied with Latest Dorm Renovations

Mayor Ilsur Metshin toured the dormitories on Pushkina street.

More than 40 buildings have been renovated by the University since 2010 – the year when the federal status was obtained. 78,000 sqm of University properties have been overhauled in 2015 alone, about 1 billion rubles have been invested. September to November were especially busy, with up to 500 workers present simultaneously on different spots.

We already mentioned the great changes that were to be made at the dorms on Pushkina street. The works were finished before the end of the year as previously planned.

All utility lines and connections were replaced (heating, plumbing, wiring, water). New windows and bathroom fixtures were installed, roofing was also renovated. Replaced items include floors, furniture, bedding and many others. The six month work was finished in less than four months. As a result, the students will be able to move in at the beginning of next semester.

Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin noted the high-quality work and even compared the rooms to an economy class hotel. The dwelling is now on par with the Universiade Village – and it's much closer to the University. Those who lived there before the refurbishment are now impatiently waiting for mid-January.

Mayor Metshin said, in particular: «You are doing the right thing, Mr. Gafurov, creating the necessary environment for the students is essential. Many changes have happened at Kazan University after obtaining the federal students, it's very important that everything is made for young and creative people who can come to Kazan to study».

The two buildings can accommodate up to 1300 students. Rector Gafurov said that this quality standard must be applied to all further renovations. The works at Naberezhnye Chelny campus will start soon. Naturally, time will also come for all other dorms in Kazan as well.

Of course, one mustn't forget about the long-awaited insulation repairs at the Second building of Kazan University (one of the high-rise twins in the central campus). The works at the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance will also be finished promptly, as the Mayor was informed during his visit there.

The other facilities currently being overhauled are the Institute of Chemistry, the Institute of Engineering, the Naberezhnye Chelny Institute, the Elabuga Institute, and UNICS Culture and Sports Center.
