Participants hail from more than 20 countries, among them Russia, Bulgaria, Brazil, the UK, the USA, Ghana, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Iran, Ireland, Spain, China, Colombia, Lithuania, Poland, Malaysia, and CIS countries. The number of visitors rose significantly year-to-year - from 40 to 110.

'We managed to launch a platform for the discussions about archeology, history, and heritage preservation; this summer school has to become one of the top 10 in the world. The rising recognition tells about people's awareness about the achievements of Kazan University and the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan, - shares Ramil Khayrutdinov, Director of the Institute of International Relations, History, and Oriental Studies. - The participants are not invited experts but young researchers who had to compete for the right to attend'.

The school program consists of a number of lectures as well as practical courses within such subsections as 'History of Metallurgy', 'Paleoanthropology', 'Archeobiological studies', 'Methods of preservation and restoration in field conditions', 'Geoinformation in archeology', 'Ancient ceramics', 'Experimental Studies of Ancient Instruments', 'Archeological Glass'.

The main focus will be on acquiring expertise in experimental and practical methods of archeology. The attendants will conduct their own experiments and trial and analyze the results.

The school is organized by Kazan University and Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan with support from the Revival Foundation and Bolghar State Museum Preserve. The next summer school will take place in Sviyazhsk and will be dedicated to restoration.
