This paper discusses the utilization of carbon dioxide into the value-added products in reservoir conditions through hydrogenation of CO2 in the presence of the oxides of transition metals promoted by sodium nanoparticles. The conversion products of carbon dioxide contributed to the generation of n-alkanes that provided upgrading of a heavy oil sample and reduction of its viscosity. The upgrading experiments were carried out at a temperature of 300 ?C and pressure of 95 bar to simulate the steam injection techniques. The influence of reaction duration for 24, 48, 72, and 96 h on the upgrading degree and utilization of CO2 was evaluated using various analytical tools. The results showed a drastic oil viscosity reduction from 3931 mPa.s to 1062 mPa.s. The content of light fractions increased by 33 wt%. The elemental composition of oil shows a decrease in the content of sulfur. Moreover, the H/C ratio of crude oil was increased from 1.32 to 1.96 after the catalytic upgrading process. The content of the saturates and the relative content of C21-C34 n-alkanes after the catalytic upgrading for 72 h was increased two times compared to the non-catalytic upgrading process. Thus, the obtained modified catalysts can significantly increase the carbon dioxide utilization degree and upgrade the heavy oil in-situ. |
