Annotation Political, cultural, social and economic changes in post-Soviet Russia and the appearance of new values in education led to new aims and objectives for teacher education. This in turn led to a series of reforms in teacher training. These reforms took into account strategic national interests and an objective assessment of trends characteristic of the development of similar educational structures in other countries. The aims of this chapter are: to provide a critical insight into the Russian system of teacher education in the global context; to identify and highlight the specific features of teachers' professional competence development.
